Practice! I play volleyball, too and the biggest thing that you can do is practice and get into shape. Run a mile everyday, do 100 sit-ups, lift some weights- anything to get into shape! Just exercise and get into a physical condition where you not out of breath after 3 laps of running.
Get a volleyball and practice: volleying it off the wall, setting it in the air, and bumping it to yourself or off the wall. Get some control over the ball so when try-out day comes you look like you know what you're doing, and you will!
The biggest think to remember during try-outs is to have a positive attitude and even when you're tired, don't give up! That's what the coaches want to see in a player!
Things You'll Need:
1. Volleyball Knee Pads
2. Spandex Shorts (Or just normal sport shorts)
3. A Volleyball
Good Luck! ;D

1. Show enthusiasm! Volleyball is a very "social" sport. A coach will like a player who talks on the court to their other team mates, but be careful not to over due it and became an annoyance.
2. Hustle! This might be obvious, but a coach would be more likely to pick an "OK" player who hustles rather that a "GOOD" player that is lazy.
3. Show the coach that you are willing to learn.

- Get started. Go out and buy a volleyball. Then go on the Internet and learn all the basic terms.
- Now that you have a volleyball in hand, start out easy and practice setting. Remember to only use your finger tips. While setting, the main fingers you're using are your thumbs, your pointer fingers, and middle fingers. Remember to push upwards with not only your arms, but also your legs.
- Once you can set to yourself 100 times in a row, you can move on to bumping/passing the volleyball. What I do is make a fist with my dominant hand and then cup my other hand around it. I squat down and make it almost look like I'm sitting on a chair. I usually have someone toss the ball towards me for practice and I bump it back to them. Remember, the ball should hit between your wrists and elbows. It is best, though, to have the ball hit maybe a couple of inches above each wrists. Make sure the volleyball hits both arms. This gives it way more control. Once you have this mastered, move on to practicing your serving.
- Overhand serves are more powerful and harder to return, but since you're a beginner, you should start with the easier one: underhand serving. Assuming you're right handed, hold the volleyball out in your left hand at about waist level. Have your right hand in a fist and have it behind you. Then drop your left hand (the one holding the volleyball), and then swing your right hand forward and still have a fist. Hit the ball on your thumb along with the rest of the side of your fist, and the ball should bounce right off and go flying if you hit it with the correct power.
- Now it's time for some conditioning. Do you have a treadmill, or any workout gear at your house? If so, use it! Do lots and lots of running and healthy eating.
- You need to also strengthen your arms. Do you have any weights you can use? If not, try doing push ups and pull ups at your house.
- Your legs need to be strengthened, too. Practice doing squats and lunges. Don't know what these are, for sure? For help with your squats, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGAW-Jk8I2k

Try joining a parks and rec league over the summer. You can learn the basics through that. Then, work your butt off at try-outs. GO for every ball, and show the coach that you want to play, and you will all ways do your best. Good Luck!

Heads up, volleyball may seem easy, but trust me, most girls start when they are young, and trust me, they are good, yet you still have a chance, you could condition, and go to multiple camps over the summer
