Are rats any healthier for snakes or lizards than mice are?

Or does it really make a difference?

This has been an ongoing debate. Many people believe that rats are higher in fat than mice and therefore provide more nutrition. I feed african soft furred rats to most of my animals as the small adults are about the size of a large breeder mouse, but instead of being an older animal, they are in their prime. I think that provides them with the maximum nutrition without feeding too large an animal. A regular rat of comparable size would still be nursing.

i don't think threes any difference besides the size. I us to feed my monitor and iguana mice, but when they got bigger i gave them rats. sometimes its a little bit more expensive to but 2 large mice then 1 med rat, but it will be more comfortable for the animal. if your animal is the size for eating rats, then go nuts, but as far as health issues, i think the only one is if the feeder actuality bites your reptile.

  • as the first person said rats make a very healthy meal for snakes(and lizards) so i think it really does not mater and i'm in collage and animals are my major so hope i helped good luck=)
