Is eating food, cooked from a microwave oven, safe?

I just stumbled upon this article and it got me wondering:

http://www.beyondhealth.com/microwaved-food.aspx

If what they say in that article is true, why is this not common knowledge? If microwave ovens are, in fact, significantly harmful to our health why has there been no one trying to stop these ovens from being placed in practically every home/dorm room/etc?

What are the facts and should we start relying less on the microwave oven?

    WOW!

    Very interesting.

I' m actually printing that article.

I'm going to show it to my family and see what they think.

I don't know if I would be throwing out my microwave though, but I might not use it as much.

Might be too late for me. Lol

The fact is that eating food which has been cooked in a microwave oven is completely safe.

Microwave ovens cook food using a special 'light' which emits light with of about 1cm. This light vibrates any water molecules in the outer inch or so of the food, causing it to heat (try rubbing your hands together quickly and see how they heat up).

The Beyond Health article discusses how microwaves can create new carcinogenic compounds, but a microwave cannot create cancer causing compounds any more than a conventional oven can. If you're only heating your foods to normal temperatures, you're completely safe.

When the food is removed from the oven, no 'microwaves' remain, or a emitted from, the food. Food cooked in a microwave oven is just as safe as food cooked in a conventional oven, although because microwave ovens are able to cook foods quickly to very high temperatures, you're likely to burn yourself if you leave the food in too long!
