Sorry for making you read soo much, but here it is...
Each tool found at Nook's can make you tons of money...
Use the net and fishing rod to catch different kinds of bugs and fish to sell. Although bug catching makes a LOT more money in the summer, there's always fishing still! This is mainly how I make my money at the moment!
There's three new fossils or gyroids to dig up in your town every day, with most of them selling for 5,000 bells or more. Also, every day there's a certain rock that you can hit for money. Dig holes behind your character so you don't have to run forward when you slide backwards from hitting the rock. You can make up to 8,100 bells very quickly this way. If you want a video or pictures, just look up "Animal Crossing City Folk money rock". Tons of websites come up. And if you have a slingshot, you can shoot items down from the sky and sell anything you don't want or need. Native fruits (that grow in your town naturally) sell for 100 bells each, so going around and gathering fruit isn't a bad idea. Or, if you have a different fruit from a friend's town or something, you can sell it for a quick 500 bells. OR, if you plant it, you will have 1,500 bells in a few days from the three fruits that grow on it. Plant more fruit trees for more money, and sell the fruits every three days once they grow back. Or, you can shake the trees without fruit on them! Sometimes random pieces of furniture or bags of money fall out. But watch out for bees!! Or, you could just catch those too, for more money!!! If you go down to the beach about every half hour, it will be full of shells again! So what do you do with all these shells?? Sell them! Although a single shell isn't worth much, (30 to 1,200 bells) a whole beach of them REALLY adds up, especially if you wait more than half an hour to gather them. Every few days there will be a few items in the recycling bin, and the lost and found in the town gate that you can claim and sell.
You can try the stalk market (buying turnips from Joan and selling them for more bells to Nook) once you have some money to invest, also. There's tons of guides to help you with that too, since I'm not an expert.
Whoo, lotsa typing... Well, that's how I make my money!!
Have fun making some of your own moohlah!! =D

What I do is time travel, but only by a day at a time, so I don't mess things up. I made 100,000 bells in one day by the following:
Hitting money rocks.
Digging up the stars in the ground and sell them.
Catch and sell fish and bugs.
Selling any furniture I don't want.
Making money trees.
Making coconut trees and sell the coconuts.
Selling seashells and fossils, which are quite a lot.
I do this, save and quit, and change the date to a day later. It's actually pretty easy. After a few days on animal crossing, time traveling of course, I have 200,000 bells. Good luck!

Three Ways:
1. Buy Turnips from Joan Every Sunday then sell them to Tom Nook, when he will buy the turnips for the highest price. This is like the Stock Market. Buy cheap, sell deep.
2. Plant fruits that are not native in your town. (For example if your native fruit is orange, then find a piece of a different type of fruit. like a Cherry then plant many trees of those.) Collect a lot of them then sell them to Tom Nook. You will get 500 bells for each piece of fruit.
3. You can also check out this guide: http://www.gamesradar.com/wii/animal-crossing-city...

I used to have the same problem.
Now i fish in the ocean a lot and i usually get about 5-10 thousand bells for a full pocket.
I also talk to the townsfolk and occasionally they will ask you to do some work for them and if you do it they will give you something for your work. You can sell whatever they give you unless it is bells.
You can also go to easter by changing the date on your wii and collect eggs and do a lot of things with them.
Note: this will give your town lots of unwanted weeds and your townsfolk will move and may not like you.
Hope this helps!

Here's what I'm doing tomorrow: On Monday nights there's a ghost that comes to your town and asks you to find its lamp. Once you find its lamp it'll ask you to go to your attic. Instead take all your bells out the the bank and time travel to an earlier year (ex: 2000) deposit all you're bells save and time travel back to 2008. The ghost will still be waiting in your attic. Now there will be a lot of weeds since you traveled so have the ghost clear them out and everything will be back to normal except you will have collected a lot of interest from the bank!!!

Well you gotta time travel to March 31, or 3/31/13 at like 11:00 am and then its easter so you dig up eggs see if bunny foil inside, if there is then you get the prize and SELL the prize because it sell for 9000 each time

If you have wi-fi, go to other people's town and get different types of fruit. Selling fruit will make 5x the amount of bells. Instead of 1,500 bells for a full pocket of native fruit, you get 7,500!
If you do not have wi-fi, fishing/gathering brings in the most. Selling fossils also brings in a lot. Fish on rainy days in the sea, you could catch a coalenth which is 5000-7000 bells I believe.
You just got to keep working at it
here is my code. send me yours if you have wi-fi
Name: Marlo
Town: Filmore
Code:1977-4384-5101
Fruit: Pears( soon to have cherries, apples, and peaches. possibly coconuts)
i am always online and my gates are normally always open. :)

I have the same problem. I just catch fish all day. I caught a fish that was 15,000 one time and Santa brought me a chair that I sold for I think 15,000...
You really just have to wait for items like that...
I hate how it takes forever though!!!
I have not been able to get those flying presents with the balloon down yet...i bet they would have something good in it but you have to wait for the sling shot before you can get it...
