Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and the Yahoo Answers website is now in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

Has anyone read about "web beacons" in the Yahoo privacy statement?

If you belong to ANY Yahoo Groups - be aware that Yahoo is now using "Web Beacons" to track every Yahoo Group user. It's similar to cookies, but allows Yahoo to record every website and every group you visit, even when you're not connected to Yahoo. Look at their updated privacy statement at http://privacy./ yahoo.com/ privacy

About half-way down the page, in the section on cookies, you will see a link that says WEB BEACONS.

Click on the phrase "Web Beacons." On the page that opens, find a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network."

In that section find a little "Click Here to Opt Out" link that will let you "opt-out" of their snooping. Be careful! NOT to click on the next button shown. It is an "Opt Back In" button that, if clicked, will UNDO the opt-out.

Note that Yahoo's invasion of your privacy - and your ability to opt-out of it - is not user-specific. It is MACHINE specific. That means you will have to opt-out on every computer (and browser) you use.

Update:

GNE gurl it really has nothing to do with religion nor spirituality but I was more concerned about the people in this forum than I was subject matter in this instance....I hope that doesn't warrant a REPORT

Update 2:

and for all those who appreciated the information, I would hope you would do the same for me if and when that time comes

Update 3:

thanks for the additional info pirate

How is this any different from the government secretly monitoring everything that everyone does on the internet. If you think you have complete privacy and no one knows what you do then you better thing again. They have thousands of people dedicated to monitoring what people do online. Yahoo isnt any different.

i dont understand, so, if you are in a yahoo group they put a tracking cookie on you so they can monitor your computer use?? thats strange and really unnecessary but i dont really care. why does it matter if they know what you are looking at, i know its the principle, but unless you are a psycho and looking up ways to kill people or whatever...whats the big deal?? its cool that you are telling everybody, but i just dont have anything to hide i guess.

Why do they allow you to tell us that crap, but when I try to respond to an answer, they cut me down and off like tree?
