Hobo or Homeless is their a better word for it/?

I guess it might be the context your saying it in. I think both words mean the exact same thing--someone is poor and does not have a stable shelter to live in. The word homeless I think has a more gentler meaning to it, because hobo sounds like that person is a bum on the street who deserved to be on there and doesn't care about their situation all too much. Homeless sounds like the person was put into the situtuation without warning and are helpless. That's just my view of it, I konw it's not right. Plus, hobo sounds funnier. Like in the Polar Express (I needed to use this example, sorry lol) there was a guy on top of the train who was poor and a hobo. At the ending credits of the movie, he was called Hobo. I think that word is just meant to be funny, since the guy was pretty funny. Homeless, I think of someone who is sad and can't do too much about their situtayion, even if they are trying.

Most homeless people wouldn't like being called a hobo. I met a homeless guy a long time ago who called himself Hobo Bob. Generally you shouldn't call them that unless they OK it first though.
