Is it legal to record a phone conversation in NJ without my permission?

I was recently informed that a party has been recording all the phone conversations that we have ever had. This has apparently been going on for some time, and I never gave my consent to the recordings. I know that NJ is a "one-party notification" state, but I am not quite sure what that means. Can someone explain this in lamens terms to me? I need to know this information because I feel like my rights have been violated. Can someone please give me an idea where I stand with my legal rights in this matter? I am very angry with this, and I feel hurt.

Update:

The person who has been recording me is a friend, not a business or anything else of the sort.

The federal law makes it unlawful to record telephone conversations except in one party consent cases which permit one party consent recording by state law. What that means is a person can record their own telephone conversations without the knowledge or consent of the other party in those states that allow one party consent. New Jersey is one of the states that does allow one party consent, meaning that if one party of a conersation (your friend) consents to the recording then it is legal.~

YES. It IS legal as long as one of the people in the conversation is aware it's being recorded. I used such a recording in small claims Court. It is legal and encouraged to get evidence that someone threatened you, owes you money, harrasses you etc. The woman that I taped was threatening me-I was told I could even hand it over to the cops and have her charged criminally. This evidence holds up!! However, it is NOT legal to TAP into someone's phone line and tape them or listen in. That is still illegal in Ontario and all of Canada. This is not the US!!!
