Pop and R&B is a thin line. Once an artist crosses over, meaning more mainstream audiences buy their product outside of the R&B audience, they are ALWAYS considered pop after a certain point. Rihanna started on the R&B charts (with a Caribbean sound more than anything else). After some years, her music started migrating to more of a glossy sound. It's part of the package of the industry. Artists do it to sell more records. Get Up and Drive type songs are supposed to attract a different audience for record sells, while Take a Bow keeps her R&B fan base. Its a smart career move to get more attention.
Its all a business. To me, there was nothing pop about Boys II Men some years ago, yet they are called pop artists as well. Same for Stevie Wonder. Anytime an artist crosses over and stays for a period of time, they are considered pop. I just think the title is a marketing tool as well.

i be conscious of iTunes classifies Jason Mraz's song as Pop, and that i've got listened to each song he's released. in no way used vehicle-track as quickly as (i might in no way hear to an artist who used vehicle-track; that's indicative of a loss of means/skill).
