In 95 Toyota Camry, What that switch called?

Sometimes my car ( 95 Camry) doesn’t start. What I have to do to start the car is to move stick shift to N and move it back to P, or just leave it at N, It will then start. They told me there is a switch next to the transmission that doesn’t contact correctly. When I move the stick shift back and forth, It will cause the switch to connect and start the car.

Does anyone knows the name of this switch?

Is it inside the transmission or outside?

Is it easy to replace?

I will pick the best answer later.

I believe it is called a neutral safety switch; at least that is what it used to be. It is a switch that will not allow the car to be started in any gear, just park or neutral

Confirmed as the neutral safety switch.

It is on the outside of the transmission, but its hard to replace.

Probably for the time being if money is tight stick with starting it in neutral

This is called the neutral safety switch. It should be on the outside of the transmission. It might be loose or out of an adjustment, part # NS5819 at NAPA.
