Why do some people in the UK think that Americans are slobs?
Why do some people in the UK think that all Americans are slobs when only about 25% of us are? Well, I guess I could see why. America's public image is probably not the best right now. But if some people from across the Atlantic could give me some insight, that would be great.
I think that people from the UK are great, by the way.

"Slobs"?
I don't have a particular mental image on the stature of the "typical American", so no, I don't think Americans are "slobs.
If there is anything more evocative about the image of America, it is that many see many Americans as jingoistic and arrogant individuals who feel the necessity to insult and interfere with other people's nations whilst not taking care of theirs. Charity begins at home.

I'm from the UK and I don't think Americans are slobs. What I do get the sense of (from Yahoo! Answers) is that you don't seem to know much about the world about you. For example -some Americans call the English, British when Britain includes Scotland and Wales. Occassionally basing your views on stereotypes etc. You should watch Stephen Fry in America where he travelled to all 50 states, it was quite insightful.
Hope this helps.

I wouldn't say it's "some". I'd say it's a "majority". We're not really looked upon fondly by other countries in the world right now. The U.K. is no exception.
