Best Way to Prepare for the ACT?

I'm going to be taking the ACT in February, and I'm hoping to get a good score so that it would be easier to get accepted into a college (but I do realize that universities look at much more than test scores). I don't know, but my teachers are always saying that this and that are going to be on the test, and I'm a little psyched out. Test taking isn't exactly my forte! I'm currently reading ACT Prep to get some tips. I would love to know what you all have to share! How to study efficiently? How to calm yourself down?

I did the same thing one year ago and after it was all through I got a 29 overall with a 27 in science, 29 in math, and 31 in both English and reading. My personal advice is to NOT sign up for the online practice through the ACT company. It did not help at all. The second time I took it I bought and read through The Princeton Review book for the ACT. I found it amazingly helpful. Don't sweat it because if you do gunky this time you have multiple opportunities to retake it before college applications are due.

The best advice I can give you (after taking 2 ACTs and many SATs and subject tests) is not procrastinate at all. Nothing will speed up your anxiety over a test than crash studying for it. I'd actually recommend you to get a prep book now (Kaplan I found was the best--helped me get a 34, but some of my friends like Princeton Review), and take it slowly at first and read the detailed sections about the test. Then within 2 weeks of the actual test take as many practice tests as possible in environments that are similar to actual test taking environments.

    Hope this helps.
