I live in China as a transplanted American for the last 3 years.

Warren Buffet said about 5 years ago that China would pass the USA economically by 2050. Last year he revised that to 2025. I think it will happen in about 2020.

The reason is not because the Chinese hold billions in US bonds, but because they have a labor pool of almost 800 million that is underemployed, thus it will keep wages low for decades to come. Thus their cost of living will be far lower then much of the world they compete against. That makes for lower manufacturing costs across the board. Plus they have a very stable government and society. Despite what people read in the western news, which at times makes it seem like China is on the brink of civil war, these people are devoted to their country and hard working.

While their economy has taken some big hits of late, nevertheless, what they have is a vast domestic consumer oriented free market system that they can depend on, plus rebuilding of their infrastructure that was severely damaged in the earthquake, plus huge untapped markets in the rest of the America's, middle east and Europe.

They are also slowly forming their own Asian economic union.

Yes, I believe China will overtake the USA, but not because they own us, but because they will outproduce us in almost all manufacturing and many service aspects within the next decade.

However, they will not bury us, because the Chinese are very smart and they know that to kill a market is not in the best interest of their own economy. They will become top dog simply because of the numbers, and they know it.

You sound like you have something there.

I have always thought that the Chinese were going to get us with our diet. I think they own all the fast food restaurants so that Americans will clog their arteries and die early. Also, look at Chinese buffets. The employees are all teeny, tiny, little people and the customers are all pleasantly plump and stack their plates with lots of food. (Ask me, I go there about once a week, but I try to make healthy choices and take good portions). This is no disrespect to the Chinese community, but they won't have any trouble taking over the US.

I don't think china can actually take over America unless there was another world war 2....plus china is having energy and oil crisis of their own to worry about rather than think about conquering america. They are however basically taking over the economy world of america as you can see that almost everything is made from china.

best question i've seen on here today.. there was one commercial i saw that sticks out to me this year.. they were talking about how within the next 50 years or something like that how the us would transfer the largest amount of money in history because were dependent of foreign nations. so yes i think china does own a part of the us as do the Saudis and alot of other arab nations.

does china own america? not yet. better start learning chinese. you'll need it in about 3 years. rosetta stone to the rescue...
