In an application to US Colleges and Universities, what does the class/school rank precisely mean?

In my school, 115 have taken commerce in 10+2, and the rest 135 have taken science. I have taken commerce. So do I need to write my rank out of all the students in commerce only, or out of the whole batch (that is, 250 - even those who have different subjects )

this is for the application form for us universities when also giving the sat scores, essay and so on.

some established sources with the respective answers will also be desired.

Thanks in advance

Can't give you an exact answer since I don't fully understand your question...

However, remember to spin yourself in the best possible light. So, do what looks better. If your rank looks better including the whole batch, do that. Conversely, if it looks better the other way, do that. Usually, however, I think that colleges will look for your rank out of all students in your school regardless of subject.
