Question about Wireless routers?

I have a wireless router plugged in downstair in my house with a cable running through the wall to my room upstair which i use to connect directly to my PC.

The Wi-Fi signal downstairs is not strong enough to reach my room so i can only connect to the internet through the cable running from downstairs.

I need to connect more than one computer in my room to the internet. Is it possible to connect a Wireless Router to the cable in my room so i can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi?

If connecting another router isnt the answer then what else can i do to create a WiFi connection in my room?

    Quick answer Yes.

You can connect another WiFi router to the cable and treat it as a new access point (I do exactly that). However you may have to change the settings on your router to use the correct DHCP server etc, which will be your router downstairs but it shouldn't be too hard to do.

the easiest thing for you to do since you want wifi in the upstairs area and since you already have a cable connection up there from the router downstairs is to purchase a cheap 4 or 5 port switch, connect it to the cable coming out of the wall, connect a cable from the hub to the computer that was wired already and purchase a wireless Access Point and plug it into a port on the switch also.

This will give yo a strong signal upstairs while having a excellent link to the router downstairs.

You can install another wifi router in your room and put in the cable from the downstairs as your internet and that will work.

I would only do this if you have a spare router with you. IF you are goign to buy another router you are better buying a one which has more stronger signals.

The best solution is to get a more powerful router rather then buy another router for your room.

I would suggest going for the Rangemax Series of Router, they would cost you from 80$ or so.

This will also save you the hassle of the cable coming to your room.

well, you can buy a repeater which will make the signal stronger..u can put the repeater in each floor so you will have a singnal everywhere.
