Chicago area restaurants?

My husband is taking me to a show in Chicago on NYE in the afternoon. I'm trying to find somewhere really good to go for dinner afterwards. It doesn't have to be RIGHT IN Chicago since we live an hour south of there. It could be just in a nearby town on our way home or at least not too far out of the way. I especially like Tex Mex, but I'm up for anything.

Suggestions?

If you don't mind North Chicago, try Chicago Pizza and Ovengrinder. It's at 2121 N. Clark St. and it is worth the sometimes hour wait. It is very small in there though, but you can get a drink from the bar while you wait. Their pina coladas are huge and sooo delicious. Their salads are the best I've ever had and so fresh. Try the Mediterranean Bread dipped in the poppy seed dressing- you will want to come back for more! You can bring home a couple of breads and a jar of dressing also. Their pizzas are really good- they are served upside down and then flipped in front of you. Very unique. I have been coming to this place for 20 years and my parents for about 40 years. It is my favorite place to eat in the city. There usually isn't a wait if you go when they first open.

Might be tough now to get reservations for New Years Eve.

    I would just call around.

Might be easier to have a lunch or make it an early dinner so eat right before or right after the show.

Good luck. Have a good time.

The Cheesecake Factory at the base of the Hancock Tower would be good for your party. They have an extensive menu, not too expensive, large place, great design and it is right across the street from Water Tower Place

If you like Mexican, try Taco Reale in Hammond, Indiana off of Calumet Ave. Some of the best Mexican food a nice dining room and a full bar.

I would also try El Cortez at 183rd and Cicero in Country Club Hills for awesome Mexican. If you want to eat downtown near the Theatre district I would recommend Millers Pub on Wabash near Adams.

Great place, nice atmosphere and not overpriced. Have fun.
