Can I use all-purpose flour instead of cake flour?

I'm making red velvet cupcakes for the new year, and I don't have the time to buy cake flour. So I'm wondering if I can just substitute since all I have is all-purpose. Thanks a lot :D

Yes you can. Cake flour is much finer and lighter than all purpose flour so I would sift my all purpose flour a couple of times before measuring and you should be just fine.

All purpose flour has a higher protein percentage than cake flour, so your cake may be a little chewier and not rise as much, but if it's all you have, give it a go.
