Graphic Designer what kind of computer to get, please help?
I have a Dell, my hard drive is bad, so long story short, I have to get a new computer. I do Graphic Design from my home, I use the adobe suite, my last computer was a dell and had 512 memory. Anyone out there have any suggestions on what would be a good computer for me, it doesn't need to be dell. My old one is 4 yrs. old, and I know a lot has changed with speed and memory. Feeling overwhelmed at all the choices. I'm good at the computer and working with my graphics programs, but as for the computer itself, I'm out of the loop as to what is good now. Thanks for your help. Have a happy new yr.

A lot of it depends on the operating system you want. I believe Microsoft will stop selling XP altogether next month sometime, so you'll want Vista. This means you'll need at least 2GB of RAM [memory] (though I'm told it can run on much less).
I also recommend at least a dual-core processor so your applications will run faster, though you might want to look into a quad-core if you're interested in super speed. =D
Right now I have an HP laptop with Vista Premium, 2GB of RAM and a dual-core processor; 160GB hard drive. I use it mostly for web and graphic design, and it runs pretty good. So, a desktop would run better.
I'm not really sure what brand to recommend to you; it's really more of a personal choice. Be sure to make your decisions carefully. I hope this helps.

Since you're a graphics designer I highly recommend a Macbook pro.
