New iPod nano... Help and suggestions...?

Question

Hi. I'm getting an iPod nano 4th generation as a late Christmas present and I wanted to ask a few things about it:
1. I wanted to know if you have to have iTunes to sync music to the iPod or if you can sync it with another program such as Windows Media Player.
2. I was wondering if the "genius feature" on the iPod only works with songs you buy from iTunes or if it also works with songs from (for ex.) a CD, that a friend sent you by e-mail or from another mp3 player.
3. What's a dock adapter and what can you use it for?
4. Is a "cover" for the iPod necessary? What are the best kinds?
5. Do you need a special program to sync movies from a dvd? 
6. Does the iPod come with any songs?

I would also appreciate any suggestions you might have for me about iPods...

They come with just standard white ear phones. They work pretty well but they blow easily after a while.  Ipods dont come with songs on them already. I have iTunes but you can put your music from windows media player on it and sync. Just go to file and import file or if you have playlists you can choose import playlist. I dont have a cover but they help protect it from scratches. Just depends on if youre bad about dropping things. I should probably get one because I am. lol. A dock adaptor is a fitting you slide into an ipod dock to hold your ipod in place and you can play your music on like an Ipod stereo thing. They also have Ipod chairs, pillows, etc that you can listen to music on. Hope this helps! Good luck with the new iPod!! =]

1). Yes you can only sync an ipod through itunes 
2). Yes Genuis will work with all songs 
3). Im not really sure ive never used it 
4). For the nano I dont really think a case I essential, unless you plan on running or exercising  with  it.
5).Nope if you have any movies you want to add to itunes you can just do it by using itunes itself. 
6). No the ipod does not come with any songs. 
7). Itll come with the standard white heaphones
