Use FOIL method: Multiply First term,Outer,Inner, and Last term.
(3z-1) (z-4) = 3z^2 - 12z - z + 4
(then,combine the like terms:)
= 3z^2 - 13z + 4

Remember FOIL:
First, Outside, Inside, Last
(3z-1)(z-4)
= (3z*z) + (-1*z) + (3z*-4) + (-4*-1)
=3z^2-1z-12z+4
= 3z^2-13z+4

3z^2 -12z -z +4
3z^2 -13z +4

3z x z = 3z^2
3z x 4 = 12z
-1 x z = -z
-1 x -4 = 4
So put them all together and you get..
3z^2 + 4 +11z
.....
The other answers are wrong btw. From the other people.

(3z - 1)(z - 4) = (3z)(z) + (3z)(-4) + (-1)(z) + (-1)(-4) = 3z^2 - 12z - z + 4 = 3z^2 -13z + 4
