I know how 3cm dia silicon crystals are grown, but how are crystal sheets maybe 30cm for chips produced ? ?
Update:
I find it difficult to imagine that the right thermal conditions for single crystal growth could be achieved in a 30cm crystal. Also the cost and difficulty and waste in cutting into slices would seem prohibitive. I suspect they use a vapour phase technique.
