How to give my cat a pill?
My cat is male and had a bad past because he was gotten from a shelter. We have a pill dropper and tried putting the pill powdered AND crushed in his food, but he simply doesn't eat his food for along time. We tried wrapping him in a blanket, but he gets very Mad and Crazy and is able to jerk all over and get away. We had him in a bag so only his head could stick out, but his head slips too easily. This cat is very wild. Any ideas on what to do?

I feel your pain. I have to give my cat 3 pills a day! He is no angel, either. He throws his head around. If I manage to get it in, he spits it right out. Even my vet, who only treats cats, has problems getting him to swallow pills. The most reliable method I have is to crush the pill in a bowl, add tuna water from a can (not oil), and watch him drink his medicine away. He loves it. He stands by me and cries the whole time I am preparing his medication. I do not give him any of the tuna, just the water, because I am afraid the medicine will get in the fish. He will not eat the meat if he smells the medicine, but he always drinks the water/juice. Just so you know, I give him about half the water from a can for each pill.
Good luck.

I have to give my cat pills too. He is also too smart and can tell when you try to hid the pill in food/snacks. The way I do it is have one person hold down his hands (or else he will scratch to get away) and use my thumb and index finger to open his mouth then use my other hand to pop the pill into the back of his mouth. You have to watch because he may try to spit it up, if he does just try again. Hope this helps.

Really good ideas here. Just a tip if hiding it in food does'nt work, try wrapping a towel around his body to contain him a little better. (meanwhile trying to comfort the poor kitty) tilt the head up (back ) hopefully you can loosen jaw slip pill in mouth towards back hold shut a few seconds rub throat. Good Luck.

Okay, people are going to tell you to hold the cat's head, press on the jaws, insert the pill, and stroke his throat until he swallows. It is possible to do it this way but its much easier to just go get some of those cookie-dough type cat treats that they make for the purpose and feed it to him. He won't notice the pill.

crush it up and then mix it up in sardines and if he refuses to eat it lock him in a room with just the food until he has to eat it(tough love) or if it is a disolveable pill then put it in the cat's water or milk and do the same if he refuses to drink.

Go and buy your feline friend some Greenies Pill Pockets.
It works on my grandmas cat, it should work with your cat. And it is very simple.
