A lot of people say it's legal, but it's really illegal if you download stuff illegally. Limewire started suing (spelling?) people several years ago for abusing the site. Of course, they couldn't sue everyone because there's so many poeple that use it. But as far as I know, if your friend stays within the limit, then it's legal.
I recommend your friend just uses iTunes. You can get a virus on your computer using Limewire because it's getting it's source from several computers. iTunes is a safe, secure website and most songs only cost about $0.99,

Limewire is an illegal site to use. The best is iTunes. If the police catch you on limewire you could be put in jail for a long period of time. The best way to handle this situation is to not go on limewire. Tell your friend the he/she could use time in jail.

Ok, Limewire IS illegal, but your friend will not go to jail. SO many people use the site, and the only people the popo would even care about 'busting' would be someone who ut a HUGE virus on the site or someone that distributes a lot of the pirated crap on there
btw I live limewire, but if it isn't working for you, try frostwire

It is illegal but i think you only have to pay a fine, then again that fine could be up to $5000
I've never heard of anyone being sent to jail for using limewire
My friend from work uses it all the time and she admits that once in a while she receives a warning via email reminding her that she is solely responsible for downloading from limewire and the consequences of doing so.

LimeWire itself is legal. The content uploaded is both illegal and legal depending on whether the person has the rights to upload it, share it, etc, or not.
You shouldn't worry about your friend. The chances of getting put in jail are next to nothing. However he may have his internet connection disconnected if he continues.

Yes lime wire is a legal site because the last time i checked, you had to pay a fee every month. plus the police shouldn't arrest a person for using that site when they're not the one who created it. Don't worry, if that site was illegal then they should have made a news announcement or something. lol

Limewire isn't a site, it's a program. It's perfectly fine to have the program installed on your computer but if your friend is downloading music on it and gets caught then he'll get a fine.. I don't think you get jailed for it unless it's a repeated offense.

limewire is illegal if you download the program without paying a monthly fee.
however there is limewire that you can purchase.
and thats TOTALLY legal.
so if i were you, i would ask him which one he uses.
also, the limewire that IS illegal gives you MANY MANY viruses. and people can look into your computer, trust me....i learned that the hard wayy.
& there is a very unlikely chance that the police with know that he uses limewire so he probably WONT go to jail.
but i would look out....just incase, you never know what can happen.

Limewire isn't a site. It's a P2P (peer-to-peer) file sharing software. It allows you to download files hosted by various websites across the net. It's not illegal to use it, but what you download maybe illegal. If you download a song that hasn't been copyrighted, it would be illegal since you have to pay for music like on iTunes. You wouldn't be put in jail. But you may recieve a fine, depending on how many counts of illegal files you download.

Technically the act of using Limewire/Kazaa/Morpheus or any other P2P file sharing system IS PERFECTLY LEGAL. However, the act of sharing copyrighted music is what the authorities will prosecute for, as you are allowing other users to download something which they should pay for, for free. The act of downloading music which is being shared by other users, is illegal, however the authorities will prosecute those who are sharing a "significant amount of music" - like drugs they will go after the DEALERS not the USERS.
