dog's nails v. hard wood floors?

I am thinking about getting a dog but my just moved into a really nice house with real hardwood oak floors. If I do get a Dog, how would I keep his nails for scratching the floors up?

Just for adding to what everyone is saying. You do realize that your dog is probably hurting because his nails are so long right? You should have his nails trimmed once a month. It costs like $5 for a grooming service to do it and it's free for you. I personally take my cat to a grooming service because you can really hurt your animal if you clip their nails wrong. Dont buy those little boots. Your dog is probably in pain, or at least discomfort walking around with such long nails.

We all have dogs and floors. Don't let the dog on the hardwood, get him nail caps, cover it with a rug, there are lots of possibilities.

yeah not a good idea but if you really want one put maybe a big rug on the ground keep his nails trimmed or you can just not let him in that part of the house that has hardwood floors

I have a dog and I also have hard wood floors.

The dogs nails dont seem to be an issue for my floors.

They make nail trimmers that actually sand the nail down so it will have soft edges instead of the sharpness that you get from a nail clipper. They're something similar to the "Pedi Paws" or the "Pet-icure" (but don't get those things, they aren't durable enough, get a higher grade one from a pet store.)

By cutting the nails every couple of weeks. You can buy clippers for this (Pet Smart) or better yet use a Dremel tool for grinding the nails down--less fuss, less pain.

Keep the nails super short by filing weekly with a Dremel or nail clippers.
