When adult dogs begin to eat stools, it may also be due to malabsorption of nutrients or nutritional deficiencies. In addition, any condition that might cause an increase in appetite or an unusual appetite, such as diabetes, Cushing’s disease, thyroid disease, or treatment with certain drugs such as steroids, may lead to an increase in stool eating. Some dogs that have been placed on a highly restrictive or poorly balanced diet may also begin to eat their stools. It should also be noted that if a dog develops a taste for a particular dog’s stool, that dog should be tested for any type of condition that might lead to poor digestion of the food (and therefore excessive food elements remaining in the stool).

Buy a food additive - such as Deter or Forbid - or dry kibble that makes feces unappetizing to dogs, and add it to your dog's food if he's into eating his own. These products contain a chemical, monosodium glutamate, that is made bitter tasting during the digestive process.

Many owners have had success in stopping this behavior by supplementing their dog's diet with one spoonful of canned pineapple or a teaspoon of spinach. There are products on the market such as 'Forbid' that can also be added to the dog's food to help stop the problem.

well, its obvious that your dog is not completely digesting her food. this is usually the result for when dogs eat really fast. so maybe, if you notice this, feed her from your hand, in very small portions slowly. this way the food will get digested. because the food isnt being digested, when your dog poops, its feces still smell and taste pretty good to your dog. so yeah you can go off and buy all the stuff that make their poop taste bad..but pineapple works reallyyyyy well. your dog should eat it and when it comes out the other end (ew i know) it should smell and taste horrible. good luckk!(:

Define irony.... Adding a supplement to a dogs food to make Poop taste bad! LOL Yup the additives work. And when they do this its not always something bad. Sometimes they just see another dog do it, sometimes they are just really hungry! My older dog started to do it when I had to change his food to put him on a diet. A GSD that lived to 13. There was nothing wrong with him.

Change the dog food to better quality food. Maybe add some vitamin supplements. I would bring her to the vet, because this is usually a sign of illness or a poor diet.

Home remedy was pineapple, not pumpkin. There is a product called Forbid you put in the food.

He is lacking some specific nutrient. Contact your vet
