Can you give an explanation of this politics-related cartoon in the Washington Post?

Can you give a *detailed* explanation of how you perceive this cartoon (in Tuesday's 12/30 Washington Post)?

Just having a little debate with someone over the exact meaning of it!

Thanks for the help!

Update:

What about the 'Presidency is what happens when you've made other plans'? Is that an obvious play on the quote 'Life is what happens when you've made other plans'?

    My Interpretation:

I guess it means Obama is expected to manage a lot of sour things when he comes into office and that he may have to change some of his promises to accommodate unexpected situations like the terrible economy and the Gaza incursion in the Middle East (see flames).

Obama promised a lot during the campaign and people expect him to do the impossible, "turn lemons into lemonade" in both foreign policy and internal affairs. He may need to scale back and to be more realistic about funding if he is going to do his best against new challenges. He will also need to see how he can modify his positions to best aid the Middle East peace process.

The cartoonist was afraid to be really upfront about his message, so became wishy-washy about the message. Not an American Hero, by any standards. He is trying to state in a sissified way that Obama has been given a pile of lemons to deal with, and could have done more with his life in the private sector. I disagree with his synopsis, as Obama likes the power of presidency. Therefore this cartoon reflects cowardice and lack of true insight.

If we are looking at the same cartoon...climate change..bush riding off into the sunset.....

I think it is referrring to Bush's horrible record on the environment and global warming...including his last minute bills passed. He rides off into the sunset, but due to his ignorance of the real environmental situation be is burned to a crisp...

    That's my opinion
