If race doesn't exist, does that mean that differences between males and females also don't exist?

I had a college professor who told us that we can't assume who is a female and who is a male, because there are no real differences between the two. At first, I thought this was silly, but if you think about it, can't it be true? After all, if there is no such thing as race, couldn't it be that there is no such thing as sex differences? After all, can you really tell when a male ends and a female begins? There are not only such a thing as hermaphrodites (people with the sex organs of both), but there are also people with ambiguous sex organs that are not one or the other. There are also people with no sex organs at all. So then, isn't it true that sex differences are a social construct? Isn't it true that we should stop saying "male" and "female" since we are really all the same?

No such thing as race does NOT = no such thing as physical differences.

That argument is silly. All black people don't look alike, all white people don't look alike. The fact that there is physical difference between people from Africa and people from Europe does not mean that they are different races. We are all human. By your logic an albino black person is indeed a white person.

On the other hand, sexual differences are a physical construct because all men and all women should logically have different sex organs.

Well one could say that there is a definite difference in the role played by a male and female in society but a white and black and asian girl should all be considered the same. We shouldn't have to be different races to be how we want to be.

It's an interesting idea and I see what you're saying. I don't know what we should do because I'm so confused about everything lately. People are people and there are too many expectations for us based on our sex. The people I tend to like most are ones that have a blend of "male" and "female" traits.

No, males and females are different. A hermaphrodite is an anomaly. Men and women think differently, feel differently, mature differently, and have different physical characteristics.

The exceptions do not make the general rule illegitimate.

College professors can come up with some strange concepts. You kind of have to "eat the meat and spit out the bones" when listening to them.
