I am shocked at how little people seem to know...?

about reproductive health on this site. Did they stop teaching this basic stuff in health class? I learned the basics in 7th grade (1996) and again in high school. What the heck happened the sex ed? People shouldn't be having to ask these questions! Am I crazy or does anyone else think this?

Update:

Not just the teens...a lot of grown women are asking questions that are pretty common knowledge, or so I thought.

    Tell me about it!

I have to be honest though, I only read up properly on my reproductive health after trying unsuccessfully for a baby. Knowing more about my body and correcting the things I was doing wrong helped me to conceive.

But I suppose there are women who conceive automatically who have no real need to read up on it. But I suppose if they are on here asking questions, then they should buy a blooming book - Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler should be mandatory reading for every woman!

mayby they just dont know, i myself can tell you anything you need to know about your body when it comes to health exercise vitamins how to have a healthy pregnancy but as for how you got pregnant and where the babys grow, im clueless, seriously and honestly, everyone has different views on what it takes to be a mother and thinks of themselves as it, thats why they have shows like wife swap and spouse swap etc...

as for sex ed, i dont remember a thing about it but i did past health class with flying colors lol

I kind of think it's also some sort of addiction to Yahoo! Answers. I mean, some of the questions asked could be Googled and be answered in a fraction of the time it takes to get a decent answer on YA, but for some reason, people ask anyways.

But sometimes, it really isn't always bad sex ed. I think a lot of teenagers just don't pay attention because they think they know everything already (A lot of my peers think they know everything, at least.) I, for one, love researching sex ed things just because I find it really interesting to actually KNOW what's going on. It's so easy with the internet.

They have pretty much done away with sex ed entirely in most schools. And what little they do teach is abstinance only. They teach nothing about how a woman's time of ovulation can vary considerably woman to woman, month to month. They do not tell you how condoms are only actually 85% effective even when used perfectly with no holes or breaking. And they certainly never teach anything about early pregnancy symptoms. It is shocking. But unfortunately this is the world we live in. I just answer the questions as best I can because honestly I feel it is the product of a society trying to hold on to repressed ideas that has made teen pregnancies rise considerably. If we sat our kids down like when I was in school and showed all the graphics of STDs and showed the likelihood it is going to happen to you... there would be a lot less sex and a lot more protection.

It's not just reproductive health. Most people don't know much about a lot of things.

lol i posted something like this last week and got called nothing but a nag, and got reported for it..

I cant believe the mentality of some women, i can completely understand where your coming from!!!!

and how people only worry about being pregnant, after they've already had sex...they should start thinking of the conseqeunces BEFORE it all happens, its sooo much easier lol

Maybe they just don't listen? lol I went through sex ed pretty recently...in 2002 (7th grade) and again in 2005 (10th grade) and a lot of people in class seemed to spent a lot of time not listening, making fun of, and generally being immature. So maybe they didn't absorb the information.

and as for grown women....uhhh...maybe they took sex ed so long ago they've forgotten the basics? haha I don't know.

I'm with you! I learned all this stuff in middle school (6, 7 or 8 ... I don't remember). And that was well before 1996! But I was a good student, and I actually paid attention. I guess most girls slept right on through it...

Also, what about googling something and doing some research first? I swear, nobody looks anything up!

ADD: I am also amazed that the only concern that girls/women have after unprotected sex is pregnancy! I'd be way more terrified of STDs! There are quite a few of those that you get for life. There is no Plan B for HIV, Hepatitis, Herpes...
