In the study of alchemy, what is "The Gate"? and is it related to the astral rift?

What is "The Gate"? I've heard alchemists talking about "The Gate" and how to find "The Gate". WHAT THE HELL IS THE GATE?! Also, what is the astral rift, and astral projections and astral cords? What is it, a unity between elements psychological, astronomical and magical? Is the gate an entrance to the astral rift? Answer me, dammit!

    if not i believe it is a spiritual or philosophical metaphor for knowledge
