Do dogs and cats know the difference between male and female humans?

I am the Alpha but in my "pack" do my three dogs and two cats know I am female

Certainly. Why do you think dogs sniff your crotch when they first meet you? They're trying to tell what sex you are. Both dogs and cats probably use a combination of scent, sight and the sound of the voice to determine a person's sex. I have three cats, one of whom loves men and one of whom loves women (the third one is scared of everyone, regardless of gender!). The one who loves men will generally approach a man she doesn't know, but not a woman, and the one who loves women the other way round. They certainly know who's who.

Your being the alpha of your 'pack' isn't dependent on what sex you are. A wolf pack has an alpha male and an alpha female, both of whom are dominant over all other pack members. Your dogs recognize dominance, regardless of sex.

Oh absolutely I even read about a rare breed of dog that enjoys playing with females more than male humans and tends to show off to get extra attentions from females. They know the difference animals are very smart.

    Dogs certainly can.

Some badly treated dogs can retain a fear of either men or women, because they remember being hurt by someone of the same gender. With the opposite sex owner they can be perfectly fine.

They can detect the sex of a human through both visual and scent clues.

I'm not so sure about cats though. A fearful cat seems to be frightened or aggressive to all humans, regardless of gender, if it suffers a bad experience with us.

They do indeed! Have you ever noticed that male animals tend to get along better with female masters?

YOU see yourself as the alpha, but do your animals know this? They probably just see you as one of the females in THEIR pack. xD Or the 'alpha female'.

I think they do. Because some prefer a female or male owner.

I also think they must know, cause when i was pregnant, we had a cat at the time, she she used to pur like mad, and lay on my tummy lol.

Yes of course they do. That's what they sniff for.

I don't think so. I wonder if dogs and cats even recognize gender within they're own species, I always see male dogs humping other male dogs
