My dog wont stop scratching his hot spot(s) and its getting bad.?

He has 3 hot spots the size of a nugget.

The 3rd one was very small and it got a lot bigger!

He really wont stop scratching it

I can't watch him all the time to stop him from scratching.

What do I do about it?

Will it get worse?

Is this a serious case? :\

The vet didn't help much, the had a lot of other dogs to attend to. I understand.

Help please? :)

Happy New Year by the way.

Update:

I put an ointment given by the vet

But he scratches it off :(

Hot spots are skin infections. The will sometimes heal with topical antibiotics but they are so itchy that dogs will usually just keep licking & scratching the ointments off- it really should be treated with oral antibiotics from your vet. These hot spots don't sounds huge- I have seen ones as big as softballs or bigger- so don't despair!

And while yes, the vet may be busy, that's no excuse for poor or half-hearted treatment. Just because he may not be as sick as other dogs doesn't mean he's any less important. Don't be afraid to call them & say the topical stuff isn't working; they could prescribe something else over the phone that you could pick up without taking your dog back in.

give ur dog 1 benadryal pill in the am and pm. if he is over 20 lbs 1 pill every 8 hrs and cut the pill in half if he is lighter. they can take 2 pills if they are over 50 lbs but 1 in the morning and at night should calm the itch.keep him out of wet areas and wipe his sores after he comes in with a little warm water and epsom salts and soak the spots well then dry and apply antitch cream like gold bond or benadryal on the sores.do thi a lot for the first few days and when he is not as itchy and digging give him 1 pill but continue to clean dry the sores and use the cream until they are healed up. my husky has allergies to wet grass.weeds and air borne pollens and when he is flared up i use these methods and he gets better. sometimes bad outbreaks the vet gives him steriods to calm the skin down. u can appy vaseline to the spots before he goes out them wash and clean them when he comes in and the vaseline will block anything from making the sore more itchy.do this for a week or so and if he is still uncomfortable see another vet who will give u the time and check him over good. happy new year and good luck

All dogs play rough. However if his play is borderline aggressive or if he is actually HURTING the other dogs due to his exuberance, then i would stop bringing him to the park immediately. Learn here https://tr.im/uwPmA

It's your job as his owner to keep him under control, and if you can't so that then you shouldn't be bringing him someplace where he could get into trouble.

How often does he get walked? As a high energy breed he should be walked twice a day for as long as he can stand it. Jogging is even better. You can't count on the park to be your only way of exercising him because he obviously is not ready for it (based on the behavior you describe.)

So start walking him every morning and evening. Enroll in an obedience class with a qualified instructor (i would find a private training facility as opposed to one at Petsmart - as good as some of those trainers can be, they're mainly for easy-to-train dogs and don't specialize in herding breeds OR dogs that may have aggression issues) and he/she will show you how to teach your dog how to come.

Put Organic Apple Cider Vinegar on it. (It should be organic because the organic isn't pasteurized and doesn't have all the good stuff boiled out of it)

It will kill the bacteria that cause the hot spot and the hot spots will start healing in a couple of days.

Same with my dog, we finally had to put a hood on him so he cant reach his butt. Theres no fleas on him, just sores spots. Is it due to cold weather? Plz someone have the best answer.

Put something like E-45 or sudacream on it, and then distract him with a toy or chew.

The cream should stop the itching long enough for him to forget about it.

Maybe you should try a flea collar?
