Progressive is great. I've written LOTS Of policies with them, for other people, and the only complaints have been for people who didn't pay the bill on time.

Progressive is the "gold standard" in service, for the auto insurance industry.

Having said that, my personal auto is with State Farm - because that's where my homeowners is, and because I have a non-renewal guarantee with State Farm, that I'd NEVER get with Progressive.

I was insured with Progressive for a year and a half. I liked them, they had great customer service, was able to change my policy over the phone right then and there. They offered me higher coverage for less money than my previous insurer. The reason I left was I was able to find even cheaper rates than them. Canceling was not a problem either, in fact they offered to match. Of course you dont know how good an insurer is, until you have a claim. I didnt have any claims, so I cant attest to that. Try Liberty Mutua,l that is who I switched to, saved 400 yr over Progressive.

I've had State Farm for decades. They have always been good to me concerning coverages. They are, after some time much cheaper than Progressive. I don't have any experience with Progressive so I can't tell you how they rate as far as customer service.
