My ZUNE froze, how do I fix it?
I have an original Zune 30GB from about 2 years ago. It's now stuck in the start up mode. Is there a way to reset it? I let the battery die, but when I charged it, it came back on in the stuck position it was last in...
I've read all the site now about it...
Tried the reset, didn't work. Oh well. I guess if it's not fixed within a reasonable time, I'll take better actions

i just read an article that 400,000 Zunes 30g users froze last night at the same precise time (almost sounds like a virus). microsoft is working on the problem. you might want to check their website

My Zune 30 is frozen. What should I do?
Follow these steps:
1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.
Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required—you can go back to using your Zune!

You can reset it but do NOT Sync it to your PC again until Microsoft releases a fix for the problem. It's happening to everyone. Here is a tutorial to get your Zune working for now though:
