What is the theme of S.E. Hinton's book, "The Outsiders" ?

I need a theme statement, not just a theme. (:

    I think resilience and finding friends that have your back no matter what and making sure you do the same

    It's one of the best books ever. S.E Hinton makes other books too and I really like them.

    Sometimes your friends are more important than family, like when Johnny wouldn't see his mom, but saw Pony and Dally instead.

    Loss of innocence

    The way Johny says to Ponyboy, "Stay gold," is meant to show that Johnny wants Ponyboy to remain innocent and good instead of allowing gang life to harden him like Dally.
