As a Canadian, I can tell you I am confused. We fight along the US in Afghanistan and the 36 other countries involved, but our government has refused to back the US and the 42 counties in Iraq. Our troops number about 2500 vs the 40,000 US troops, but we are committed till 2011. The US was hit by terror so many times in the 1980's, 1990's till 2000's, something had to be done especially after the second attack on the world trade center. The US is our big brother, unlike the other G-8 countries, we don't have an atomic bomb, we don't have a missle system, we enjoy our peace and safety because of the US commitment. I feel a sense of jealousy amongst my Canadian friends, but underneath they know the truth. Our Canadian press seldom builds up the US, it always has negative things to say about them; but underneath, we know the truth. I am surprised how much the word "canadian" is used in our news broadcasts. I don't know of any other country that does this, it almost seems like propaganda, and we are being told how good it is here. I look around, and I really can't tell you what it is to be a Canadian, but I can tell you what it is to be an American.

i think the states is an awesome country and have great people so of course any attack..anywhere..is horrible. but the foreign policy of the US is to some, very medlesome and a thorn in the side of many seen as our 'enemy.'

You guys may be a noble nation, and spreading freedom and all that may be a great thing in your eyes, but at what copst? 600 years ago King Richard conducted the crusades through to asia because he believed any non-christian didnt have souls and thought he was saving him.

So sure freedom and democracy is great, but because of 'spreading the freedom,' 1/2 million iraquis are dead, theres a 5 million iraqi diaspora into lebanon and neighbouring countries.

So im not saying no freedom is the best nswer but jut that people should nalyze more deeply current issues and not jut put a freedom stamp on anything and say thats that

My opinion as a Canadian is that the US is a noble nation that wants the world to be like them. Not in the sense that the world must be like them and do everything the US does and like what the US likes, and hate what the US hates, but in the sense of having economic prosperity, political independence, and religious and personal freedoms

At the same time I am aware that some Americans are ignorant and/or arrogrant, and either want:

    a) bring all the troops home, end foreign aid and trade, and to hell with the world.

    b) total US rule of all the world, just like the British Empire would have wanted for themselves, just because they can

both (a) and (b) have some influence, but not total control over the US government
