Question on International Cell Phone Calls?

Ok so my question is probably an easy one. My gf is leaving the country for a week next week, and im curious as to what i need to do to talk to her. We both have the typical verizon to verizon cell phone plans, but i know verizon wont let us make international calls, and even if they do let us, theyll charge like 75 cents a minute, which i will NOT be paying. so, i was told to try a calling card. But can i use them on a cell phone? where can i get a good one? how do they work? ive never used one before. any input or suggestions are much appreciated :)

Depends on what country shes going to. I go to Thailand and they have internet cafes everywhere which is the cheapest place to make a call. They have international phones on the street which have slots for cards. I dont believe you can use any kind of international calling card from the store with a cell phone because I had a verizon phone with me but had to use public phones on the street before I found out about internet cafes.

Depending on where she is traveling, you can get her a local SIM card for that Country from RebelFone. These SIM cards will work with any un-locked cell phone (if you don't have one already, u can get a cheap one). This way she can call you at local rates and avoid International Roaming (which is very expensive). You can order online and they can deliver you before she leaves:

Calling cards work, just be careful which one you buy. Look for connection fee, weekly, bi-monthly fees. If you had Vonage VOIP you could call to Europe for Free and Asia for 1 cent a minute.

you can try international calling cards like

    1. Stanacard.com

    2. Freecalls.com

where calling rates vary from 2c to 10c/min
