err... let me rephrase. What are some non anime comics? such as super man spider man bat man, or maybe even some that arent super heroes

The Thor, Iron Man, Green Lantern, Captain America, Batman, and Wolverine comics are all currently great. The Spider-Man, and Superman series seem to not be consistent at times. Other well-known characters with their own series such as the Hulk, Flash, and Wonder Woman are not really good at all. If you want to go old school, I suggest you buy Watchmen by Alan Moore, or The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller.

I'll stay non-manga here.
Watchmen. Can't get much more famous non-superhero comic than this. Really dark but mind-blowing.
Also, Maus is really well known as is Persepolis.
