When you look in the mirror do you see exactly what others see or does your mind adjust your perception?

What i mean is does the way you 'feel' or what you think affect what you see? Let's say, for example, if i feel confident and healthy and strong will i look in the mirror and see a more muscular tone to myself than if i felt weak and not in shape? Or will i be seeing the same body conditioning that everyone else sees when they look at my body?

Your mind is your bodys control center. That's the reason many people become Anorexic. They have low self-esteem, so they see that in their body. If you have an over-all negative image of yourself(not just physically) then you will see yourself with an unsatisfying body, and vice-versa. There are somedays that you may feel on top of the world and indestructable, so it gives you that extra boost, and that makes you feel like your body is just that good. Hope this helps!

When I look in the mirror [as I do oh so often] I really dislike the sight, and stress on perfecting it. Perhaps this is just the low self-esteem of mine, making me believe I'm obese and hideous. I often hear how I'm such a pretty girl, and how I look fine. I never believe them, but I take the compliment with a 'thank you' anyway.

Yes. That's why everyone hates pictures of themselves. We can live in the Realm of Ideals where we think something about ourselves, and when we look in the mirror, there's the us that we want to see.

I've always wondered this. We grow up with our selves. We physically change and mentally change so we're not 100% how we are viewed by others, but if you look at a picture of you it's what others would see. When you look in a mirror you look at specific parts of you and focus on them. Good question ;)
