At what age did you start menopause? Lots more questions...?

What were your symptoms? Did you choose HRT or herbals or do nothing and why? Also did you experience menopause migraines and how did you treat them? Did you have migraines prior to menopause? How long does this last?

Update:

Deep....thanks for the correction and yes you are right about the perimenopause....and the night sweats!

There is no set age to when a woman starts menopause and there's no set length of time to how long it lasts. Typically if you're in your 40's and you start to experience some of the symptoms then chances are you've started. Typical symptoms are:

    hot flashes

    night sweats

    palpitations

    sleep disturbances

    dizziness

    anxiety attacks

    nausea

There is a great deal of controversy over HRT and herbals so talk to your doctor about some of your family health history and your own personal health history to determine if this is right for you.

Migraines can be caused by changing hormones or many other things and there are medications that can help them such as Zomig, Axert, Relpax and a number of other 'triptans' (those brands are available in Canada)

I'm sorry I can't give any straight answers but neither menopause nor migraines are specific disorders that can be pinned down to a specific time/age, etc.

    Hope this helps somehow.

Actually, menopause only one day. It's the day you are finished menstrating. In other words, the day you have your last periond. Otherwise, you are PERIMENOPAUSAL. I thought that was interesting when I found that out. I am only 38 and I am perimenopausal. I don't have migraines but I have plenty of other symptoms. The worst one is night sweats. Mine are so bad that I have to get up in the night and change clothes then put a towel down until morning so I can change the bedsheets. I am soooo tired of it. It'sa a pain to change them everyday. Sorry I wasn't any help. Good luck feeling better.

I was in perimenopause by 33. Migraines got worse and worse and increased from the week before my period to when I ovulated and then lasted the majority of the month. Gyn finally did an ultrasound and found I had adenomyosis and thickening of the cervix that caused my hormones to go wacky. Finally had a complete hysterectomy and NO HEADACHES! It's amazing what hormones can due to the body. I take a replacement hormone daily now and am much happier with life.

I was just at my gyn this week and asked him the same question. He said due to our healthy diets and exercise women are not starting menopause until around age 55.

But here is an awesome awesome website that can answer any question about that and hormones etc that you can think of. just use the sites search engine. you can also talk to other ladies who have experienced the same things you are.
