What is the process of "filling in"?

It occurs in the eye and it is why we do not notice the blind spot that we have.

Also, what other reasons are there about why we do not notice the blind spot normally.

Blood vessels and the optic disc (where the optic nerve comes in) on the retina are a leading reason why we have scotomata (blind spots). Correction occurs in the primary visual cortex area of the brain (towards the posterior or dorsal [back])
