LCD 1080 or 720 - whcih is better for the price?
i'm buying a 32 inch LCD tv with built in hard drive and freeview. i have the option of 720 or 1080 screen resolution. there is £180 difference. i plan to mainly use the tv for playing games (ps3) and watching tv. is there really any need to go for the more expensive 1080 screen? is it that much of a difference? can you suggest any cheap options for either screen?

You do not need 1080p on a 32" screen size unless you sit like 4ft away from it!!! Even then you probably won't see a difference in pic quality between 1080/720p! See the first link below.
1080p only starts becoming necessary on large screen sizes and/or close seating distances! See the second link below.
Just because something ouputs in 1080p, doesn't mean your eyes will see it! It depends on your seating distance and screen size! At 32", go with 720p and save yourself some money!!!

No need for 1080 on a 32". It is just a waste of money. Now if you also get other features that you want by going to the 1080, okay. But do not buy a 1080 32" for the resolution.

The difference between 720 and 1080 on a 32" screen is negligible. In addition, most games and HD programming are in 720 resolution. So the 720 will do just fine.

I would say that it is worth the 180$ if you are going to be using your PS3 on it because the higher definition will make a difference. 1080 and 720 is basically the refresh rates, if you have a 1080, you have a clearer foreground AND background, whereas 720 is focused on the foreground moreso.

Well if you do go 1080 make sure it is 1080p not 1080i. Resolution on 1080p(progressive) vs. 1080i(interlaced) you will notice a difference. However a 720p is pretty standard today its the new 420p for flat screens. And 1080p is what 1080i used to be. So it depends on what you want. If you're satisfied with 720p then go for it. But for us gamers(Xbox 360 baby!) and especially your PS3 Blu-Ray player you're gonna want to watch those movies and eventually those games in 1080p. Weigh the pluses and minuses, choice is yours, hope this helps.

For under 40 inch there is no big difference for 720 and 1080p.
I would suggest Samsung LE32A436T - 32'' Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV for 720p and Samsung LE32A558P3 - 32'' Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV for 1080p
