Help me complete 'my' meal?
I'm one of many 'theater mommies' that are taking turns bringing our overworked directors food for their families. Next Monday I need to bring food to feed two families of four.
I plan to make a simple 'bean soup' that has four types of beans, link sausage and picante sauce. I'm also thinking I'll bring cubes of sharp cheedar cheese because that is what *my* family loves to put in when we eat this soup. I'm just going with a couple of two liter sodas for a drink.
What else do I need? What bread/crackers (quick and easy prefered) would you recommend? What type of dessert? Anything else needed?
Thanks for your help!
Yeah... I was definately leaving the cheese 'on the side'. The sour cream idea sounds interesting. Thanks! Keep 'em coming... lol... I'm lousy at this and need all the ideas I can get. :)
Norma... read the question. I'm not throwing a party. I'm bringing one meal to two small families to allow them to *not* be stressed over what to cook... making them plan the menu takes away from part of the purpose. And not bringing enough?? That is what the question *is*... what else do I bring?

Since it's kind of a hearty soup (I would bring sour cream to add to the soup - I think it would go better than the cheese), maybe just add a loaf of crusty bread (check the Artisanal breads in the grocery store bakery section). How about brownies for dessert?

You might want to bring the cheese for people to add in. I'm lactose-intolerant, as are alot of other people, and wouldn't be able to eat the soup:) ..... A big green salad, with a couple of salad dressings. Get a couple of bags of nice rolls at the grocery's bakery (ciabatta or French or sourdough would be good) - and don't forget some butter:) ..... A 9x13" cobbler with a container of Cool Whip to put on top (or one of those "dump" cakes, with cake mix & pie filling)

I would make cornbread for sure, and bring cookies for the dessert (bar cookies are SO easy since all ya do is spread it out in the pan!!). I would also bring a big salad.
Sounds delicious!! I WANT that soup! LOL

Maybe bake an 8 by 8 pan of brownies? Or get a pilsbury chocolate chip cookie dough tube at the store? Get a pilsbury crescent roll tube )at the store) so you can have fresh biscuits for "your" meal that would probably taste good dunked in your soup?

First of all you are not bringing enough food. I feed birds more than that. Secondly, ask the families what they like. What your family likes is not important. I'm not trying to be a jerk but my philosophy is to bring more than you might need and put out food that most people might like. I want all of my guests to go away full and happy. The cheddar cheese, soup and soda all sound good to me. Try a lasagna you can bake, french bread, and a salad. Think of the foods that YOU like and go from there. I have never seen people who have not found something they like to eat. Have a great time and don't forget my invitation.

Ok you would want to serve oyster crackers with our soup because they are small, and easier to server than regular saltines. For a desert i would serve a cherry fluff, u can go to google and type this in and get the recipe

a salad and a light dessert. And as always a variety of crackers for the soup
