Is this a Robert Frost quote?

"If the writer doesn't laugh, the reader doesn't laugh. If the writer doesn't cry, the reader doesn't cry."

I've been unable to verify this quote. Can you? I read it out of context and the source attributed it to Robert Frost. Anyone know for certain?

Yes, it is, but it goes somewhat differently. Here it is:

"No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader."

It is from Collected Poems (1939) "The Figure a Poem Makes" - I found it in my copy of The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations.

I doubt it: It is not among the many quotes I found on the site below:

This is one of my favourites by him:

Depression occurs when one looks back with no pride, and looks forward with no hope.

    Robert Frost (1874 - 1963)

  • I did a cursory search and could not find a thing. I tried brainyquote.com And also came up blank. Sorry dix but I could find no verification. Peace&Love be with you...~M~

    I don't think so.
