What is a whoopie pie?
I just saw it on Yahoo's main page.

It sounds delicious, what I really want to know is: is it really good? have you tasted it? what is the best filling? I 'm going to try and make a recipe this weekend, let's see how that goes. Is there any place online where I can buy them and send them to Portugal? I don't think so but... the filling is probably very perishable.
Can you describe to me what the flavor is? And the texture?
Thanks

Whoopie pie is a soft cakelike treat. About 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Made with a top and bottom cake like parts. The filling is a creamy, fluffy filling that is usually a vanilla flavor but I have had peanut butter filling and I have had a mint flavor filling.
They are easy to make and there are several recipes for fillings traditional one has a marshmallow based filling.
Traditional flavor is a chocolate base for the cake. Other flavors are becoming more common. I have seen recipes for pumpkin, usually see that recipe in the autumn. I love chocolate so I stay with the tried and true chocolate.

A whoopie pie is some sort of cream sandwiched between two soft chocolate cakes. There are many versions these days because of the rising popularity, but I believe the classic uses small devil's food cakes on the outside, with either whipped cream or the sort of cream you find inside of snacks like twinkies.

It tastes like a chocolate cake with whipped cream icing. In Pa we call them gobs. If you go on all recipes.com they will give you different recipes. Also you can make Gob cake.
