best way to gift money to Australian from UK?
My sister lives in Sydney and had just had her first child. What is the best way to send money or gift tokens from the UK? Should I buy and send currency or is there an internet option (like Amazon, say) that is better?

The simplest method of all is to buy a gift visa card from a UK bank and send that. Visa is accepted all over the world, and certainly all over Australia. Visa will automatically convert from UK pounds to Australian dollars when they use it.

We recently recieved a similar amount from Australia in memory of relative to be forwarded to a charity. The transaction was done using Western Union so it could be done in reverse. It was our first experience but we found lots of places that operate this system once we knew what we were looking for. ( shops and travel agents with yellow signs. Not sure how much it cost but We had to take identification (passport) and collected £50cash.

1. You may simply pay to your sister's bank account through your bank. There are bank charges on such a cross-border transfer.
2. Otherwise, as far as Internet is concerned, they are various services. The most popular of them is Paypal.
You and also your sister open accounts with Paypal by internet. It is free and fast. You pay with your credit card (other ways of payment are also accepted). Paypal needs only the email address of your sister in order to make payment.
3. As far as cash transfers are concerned, there are also various services, such as Western Union . They have offices in the whole world.
You go to the nearest office of Western Union, state the name and address of the beneficiary, just pay cash (no account), get a payment identification number, give this number by phone or email to your sister who may then go and collect cash at the nearest office in Sydney
At Paypal and Western Union, there is no charge for the beneficiary. Charges for you are rather small. Funds are available immediately for the beneficiary.
