It's like lingo of any topic or subject or profession! It's also like reading and interpreting some questions on Answers.Yahoo!

I can generally tell the cultural association, age (and maturity level) and education level (how well read they are) of folks by the language (jargon) they use relative to the topic, how they express themselves, and how they present and layout their stories!

As far as "Car Talk", the "Hosts" ("CLICK AND CLACK the Tap-It Brothers") most of the time, clarify what the caller is asking!

On their site they have "Actual Car Info".

    http://www.cartalk.com/menus/info.html

With a little research and "self education" I am sure you can figure out the "lingo"! Also, you may not be their target audience.

No you don't want to speak this "lingo". Tell "dude" to speak english himself and get a life. Sounds like he needs to grow up!
