Year old chocolate in the fridge. Is it safe to eat?

It's a few unfinished blocks and a couple of easter eggs from a year ago, so are they safe to eat since they've been in the fridge the whole time. The easter eggs expiry date was last year but they still have their foil on.

Do I chuck them out to be safe or is ok to have a nibble on them?

Update:

I feel a little guilty having to throw it out but better to be safe than sorry.

The chocolate should easily be safe to eat. As long as it is stored where it won't come in contact with any kind of contaminant that would spoil or make you sick, when chocolate becomes bad it is really just a deterioration of quality. It won't make you sick but the worse the shape it is in, or the older it is, the worse it will taste.

Properly stored, Chocolate can expect to have a 3-4 months shelf life. Some of the imported bars can be 7 to 12 months old before you even get them. This is becoming more and more of a problem in the current market. I have had quite a few bars (especially organic bars) that were rancid when I bought them; sometimes it is mild enough that you can't really taste the difference, it might taste a little gritty or dirt, often it is almost inedible. Also, i have noticed in some of the finer quality bars that were imported and were very old (i.e. more than 6 or 8 months) that the flavor weakens considerably.

So Yes, you can eat aged chocolate and not get sick. You're probably looking at blooming. If chocolate is too old, it will develop a hazy finish called 'bloom.' Blooming happens when the chocolate is heated by warm temperature then cooled or refrigerated giving a whitish color to the chocolate

i hope your getting paid is worth it, sound like a big job. try getting out of the house if you can. take the kids and the dog for a walk, maybe go to the park if theres one nearby take a couple toys and snacks, have a small picnic. this will keep the baby in a stroller so it won't crawl away all the time, the 3 year old wont be able to ruin your house and fridge, and you'll be able to still bring the dog. this will give everyone some fresh air and also tire them out so when you return home they could nap and or watch a movie or something. make a deal with the 3 year old. offer 3 movies (or shows) that you will allow him to watch and if he's good he can pick which one. when the baby cries, just try everything possible, they all do it and no one really knows what they want. try food, drink, toys, books, hold it, sing, soother, teddy , blanket, frozen thing to chew on when they're teething. just try your best to keep it happy. i hope this helps. good luck. you could also ask a friend to join you if it's okay with the kids parents, this will make it easier and funner for you.

I dont think theres too much to worry about. Open them up and see if the chocolate has gone pale or is starting to turn white it becomes quite tasteless. Ditch em. I was told by a store manager of a major outlet that they store easter eggs before christmas. Easter Eggs are actually made a year before. Your easter eggs are probably two years old.

chocolate will usually keep for about a year (usually a little less) if kept in proper storing conditions (I.E: in a cool, dark, dry place)

my suggestion is to throw it away... unless you LIKE diarrhea!!!

    you should eat it!

it probably has a bunch of preservatives anyways so in reality it should be good for years if it was in the fridge *
