What do I need to do to get my PS3 connected to my HDTV with HDMI cable?

I have the HDMI cable connected and the RCAs connected as well. The screen says" An available HDMI device was detected. Do you want to ouput video and audio using HDMI?" I selected yes then selected the HDMI input jack for the TV and the screen is black. Am I using the wrong type HDMI cable? I don't understand why my Panasonic 1080p plasma HDTV won't pick up the dignal. Help!

Update:

I bought an expensive cable.... I will try stretching my cable and see if it will work.

That happened to me once. Probably because I bought the cheapest HDMI cable I could find.

Disconnect the HDMI cable and stretch it out for a little bit. Then reattatch to the PS3 and TV. Try it again and it should work.

Also make sure the connectors on both devices are clean, free of dust, and fully inserted.

Does the TV have multiple HDMI inputs? If so, are you sure you selected the right one?

that's amazingly plenty properly worth it. you will get one from Walmart for $39 and the type in playing in HD and not is amazingly noticable. don't be fooled into identifying to purchase a extreme dollar HDMI cable as they're all almost the comparable.
