How bad is eating fast vs. eating slow?

I eat real fast. Always have I just can't seem to eat slow, I am always done way ahead of other people. Is this a really bad way to eat and are there serious consequences? Other than choking.

Update:

Thanks I appreciate it. I should have said that I have always been tall and skinny and at 35 I am still the same size that I have always been. So I am not worried about being over weight. but your answers are great and I would like to thank you.

When you eat too fast you do not chew your food thoroughly which leads to your stomach not being able to digest the food properly. Another thing is that when you eat your food too fast your brain does not have time to realize that it is full and you end up eating too much. The brain takes 20 minutes to realize that the stomach is full. The best thing you can do is to pace yourself and chew each bit 15-20 times.

    Eating Too Fast

Well there aren't horrible consequences but there are a few downsides.

    1. When you eat too fast, most of the food particles in your mouth dont get chewed properly into smaller pieces, this will give your body a

hard time in dijesting your food properly, you can get an upset and/or

bloated stomach. If you're going to eat fast, make sure you chew your food properly.

    2. When you eat fast, its hard to tell when you're stomach is actually full. By eating slowly, you let the food process and you end up eating just enough to fill yourself up without overeating. Eating fast almost always leads you to overeat, in turn you can gain weight and get bloated fast which might not be a problem right now but it will be in the future.
