I thought he was knight of the british empire.
I wiki-ed him. I was wrong. He is CBE, commander of the british empire. That's a rank below knight, which would earn him the honorific sir.
I think he probably deserves the promotion.
--I never read before that he turned it down. I guess that explains it.

because the queen knows enough cosmology that she's embarrassed that SH lost the famous information paradox bet?

edit: the poster above me got it right apparently - i was joking (if you couldn't tell)... although it is true that SH is not always right, as brilliant as he is. nor was Einstein always right, as brilliant as he was.
