where does people get the idea about CO and CO2?
Where does everyone get the idea that cars produce CO2 ?
As all animals exhale or breath out CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Cokes and beer uses CO2 for the fizz , in alcohol production CO2 is a byproduct of fermentation as the yeast (little animals) eat the sugars in the mash.
CO is the waste product of burning carbon based products such as wood , coal or gasoline
what about the NOX ?
Air is pumped into the exhust by way of the air pump thus deluting the exhust gasses and adding O2(oxygen)
A clean burning engine should produce H2O ,
As an automotive tech I use a four gas anylizer regularly

CO2 is the product of complete combustion; CO is the product of incomplete combustion owing to too little O2. Cars with catalytic converters produce CO2 and no CO. Wood, coal, and gasoline always produce only CO2 if the O2 is enough.

Me suspecteth a trick question! a. carbon dioxide CO2: O=C=O; b Formaldehyde H2C=O c O2 O=O by technique of both Lewis dot and MO, yet MO wisely predicts O2 to be paramagnetic with 2 unp e? d. formic acid HC(=O)(OH) In different words all of them have double bonds; might want to argue that the O=O isn't a real double bond yet i'd say you're being pedantic. Formaldehyde does trimerize to trioxane (H2CO)3 that does no longer contain any C=O....?

Actually, thanks to the invention of computerized efficient engines and catalytic converters, cars produce CO2, not CO, from burning gasoline.

As, someone said..
CO is produced through incomplete combustion..
And, Co2 is produced by converting NO and CO in the catalytic converter.
